New Construction Homes Vancouver WA
Not to be confused with the Canadian city of the same name, Vancouver, Washington is a small suburb city just north of Portland, Oregon. It was actually named a full 60 years before its Canadian twin! Vancouver has a life of its own, independent of Portland. With a recently revitalized downtown, great schools, and affordable homes on large lots, Vancouver is perfect for families. There are many jobs right in town, like at the Southwest Washington Medical Center or with large companies like Hewlett-Packard or Kaiser Permanente. If your job takes you to Portland, the two cities are very close, just over the Columbia River.
There's plenty to do in Vancouver. The delightful Esther Short Park right near downtown has been beautifully restored. It boasts many playgrounds for the kids, a formal rose garden, public art installations, and many fountains. There are many summer concerts and festivals right in the park for the whole family to enjoy. Some favorites are the Vancouver Wine and Jazz Fest and the fundraising Vancouver Sausage Fest. Take the kids to the Pearson Air Museum or the Fort Vancouver Historic Site to learn a little more about the history and heritage of your new home town.
If you like the outdoors, Vancouver has tons to offer! Parks and greenways in town add great walking and biking paths. Take a day trip out to see Mount St. Helens, the famed volcano, or the Ape Caves, a network of tunnels carved by lava flows. Nearby Beacon Rock State Park has the largest free-standing monolith in the US, second only to Gibraltar in the entire world.
Some like to stay inside, and Vancouver has you covered too! Take an afternoon stroll to go to the great small shops and restaurants downtown. Or, head over to the Westfield Vancouver Shopping Center, where over 120 stores await! Some highlights include a Neiman Marcus, Macy's and Old Navy. In Vancouver, anything you need is easily found close by.
